The Cenote Experience

This is the main natural sinkhole area where you view the cascading roots, walk down the carved steps, and swim.

The sinkhole is open to the sky and measures roughly 60 meters (197 feet) across. The water sits 26 meters (85 feet) below ground level. It reaches depths between 40 and 48 meters (130 to 157 feet) and stays at a pleasant 24 to 26 °C (75 to 79 °F) year-round.

You must wear a mandatory life jacket and take a shower before entering the water. Sunscreen is strictly banned to protect the ecosystem.

The Upper Viewpoints

Observation areas circle the top rim of the sinkhole. They offer aerial views of the perfectly round cenote and the tree roots cascading down. Take your panoramic photos here before descending. The full scale of the sinkhole is difficult to capture once you are down at water level.

The 91-Step Staircase

5-10 mins26 m descent

You access the water by walking down 91 hand-carved stone steps. This matches the number of steps on El Castillo at Chichén Itzá. The tunnel features small balcony openings where you can look out over the water. The stone steps get wet and slippery from humidity, so hold the handrail and wear water shoes.
